10 euros FRANCE 2023 French Excellence LACOSTE
Maison Lacoste has been closely linked to the history of the Roland Garros tournament since its creation, with René Lacoste having won it on several occasions in the 1920s.
To continue the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Maison Lacoste, its historical partner, the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament, joins the collaboration and allows Monnaie de Paris to mint a round 10 euro coin; the same one that will be used for the "Toss" during the 2023 tournament.
This traditional draw, whose name is an abbreviation of the action "tossing the coin", makes it possible to fairly determine which of the two players will open the match.
Issued in a limited series of only 1933 pieces, this coin, struck in Proof Finish of the highest numismatic quality, will be available in Roland Garros stores throughout the 2023 tournament.
In it Obverse , a crocodile, representing both René Lacoste and the brand he founded, hugs the top edge of the coin. Placed on a sandy background reminiscent of the clay courts of Roland-Garros, the crocodile dominates the silhouette of the tennis champion in action on the court, symbolized by perpendicular lines.
He reverse of the coin is divided into three distinct areas, in reference to a tennis ball seen from above. The first has the texture of a crocodile skin; the second, the Lacoste polo shirt in cotton piqué; and the third, that of stringing a tennis racket. In the center of the coin, the face value takes center stage, with its 0 represented by a tennis ball.
