In 2016 we commemorate the fifth centenary of the death of Hieronymus van Aeken Bosch, Hieronymus Bosch, one of the most fascinating and creative painters in world art.

Thanks to Philip II's interest in Hieronymus Bosch, Spain has the best collection of the artist's original paintings. The famous Triptych of the Garden of Earthly Delights, Hieronymus Bosch's most complex and enigmatic creation, is housed in the Prado Museum, a museum that houses other works by the great painter.

The Royal Mint joins the commemoration with the issuance of a unique collection developed in close collaboration with the Prado Museum. It is composed of three silver coins dedicated to the triptych of the "Garden of Earthly Delights", and a gold coin dedicated to the works "The Hay Cart" and "The Temptations of Saint Anthony".

These are the first square coins minted by the Royal Mint, and in addition, also as a first, they have been made in pure silver of 999 thousandths, whose obverses show the work in full color.

The collection is made up of a circular gold coin and three pure silver coins, one of them having a square shape and the remaining two having a rectangular shape. Both the gold coin and the three silver coins are offered encapsulated and presented in jewelry cases.

The coins are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the FNMT-RCM and are sold in two different presentations: the gold coin of 8 escudos, or the set of three silver coins that constitute the triptych of the most famous work. by said author, and which are presented in a special case that allows them to be seen in the same arrangement as the original works.

Set of three silver coins

On the obverse of each of these three coins, each of the panels that constitute the original work is reproduced in color, made between 1500 and 1505 by Hieronymus van Aeken Bosch, Hieronymus Bosch, which is preserved in the National Museum of Prado. in Madrid. The left rectangular coin shows "The Garden of Eden", the central square coin "The Garden of Earthly Delights", and the right rectangular one "Hell".

On the back of all of them, a detail of the panel represented in color on the obverse is reproduced, along with the legends TESOROS DE MUSEOS ESPAÑOLES and EL BOSCO.
