This sterling silver medal is a tribute to Catalonia, made up of the provinces of Barcelona (its capital), Girona, Lleida and Tarragona.
During the Middle Ages, Catalonia was one of the territories that made up the patrimony of the King of Aragon, later known as the Crown of Aragon (union of the kingdom of Aragon and the Count of Barcelona), which began with Alfonso II, son of Ramón Berenguer. IV, count of Barcelona, and Petronila, daughter of Ramiro de Aragón.
Catalonia has a great artistic heritage, much of which has been cataloged by UNESCO as World Heritage.
