This sterling silver medal is a tribute to Castilla y León, an autonomous community made up of the provinces of Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora.
The Autonomous Community of Castilla y León was established in 1983 and emerged from the modern union of the historical territories that made up and gave their name to the ancient crowns of León and Castilla.
Castilla y León has been the birthplace and residence of illustrious figures in the most varied facets of human activity.
On the obverse the autonomous shield of Castilla y León is shown, which is defined in Article 5 of the Statute of Autonomy of Castilla y León, Organic Law 4/1983. The current Shield of Castile and León is the same one carried as arms by the sovereign Ferdinand III the Saint, who in 1230 inherited the Kingdom of León from his father, leaving the crowns of Castile and León united under the same crown.
The crowned M, CECA mark of the Royal Mint, is represented on the reverse.
