The Felis Manul or Pallas's Cat. This close relative of the domestic cat gives us a good idea of what the first cats must have looked like millions of years ago. This species arose about twelve million years ago and was first classified in 1776 by zoologist Peter Simon Pallas. They live in the steppes of Asia, in high altitude areas. They have managed to survive because they live very isolated.
