The commemorative coin is dedicated to one of the oldest scientific research institutions of our country - the Nikitsky Botanical Garden which was founded in 1812 at Cape Marciano near Yalta. The Garden is a unique collection of local and world flora, a model of landscape architecture, a sui generis open-air museum with around 20 thousand species of plants from different areas of the globe.

(National Bank of Ukraine); in the center, against the background of a conventional ornamental pattern of flowers and leaves, there is a portrait bust of the founder and first director of the garden with an indication of his name below ???????? ?????? (Christian Steven); Below are the indication of the year of issue of the coin 2012 and the crescent-shaped legend -?`??? ??????? (five hryvnias) in the white copper one. On the latter, on the left, is the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse of the coin are represented: a pond with a fountain in the middle; against the background of the aquascape, in the middle distance, a part of the garden with a pavilion; in the context of the pond below: the legend ???????????? / ?????????? ??? / 1812-2012 (Nikitsky / Botanical Garden / 1812-2012).
