Voltigeurs, forcing American troops to withdraw, even though they outnumbered the Voltigeurs and their Aboriginal allies by more than two to one.
Despite the legend that arose around De Salaberry and the Battle of Châteauguay, including the claim that 300 Allies had forced the retreat of 7,000 Americans, the importance of that battle and De Salaberry's role in it remain indisputable. despite the historical exaggeration. The actions and heroism of De Salaberry and the Voltigeurs remain key moments of the War of 1812.

Design
Designed by Canadian artist Bonnie Ross, this coin features a three-quarter profile portrait of Charles-Michel de Salaberry against an intricately engraved background composed of the bilingual text “The War of 1812/La guerre de 1812.” This background is divided horizontally by a polished silver band featuring the word "de Salaberry" raised in cursive letters. Below this band is the Government of Canada's engraved and painted War of 1812 logo, composed of the date “1812” in 1812-style handwritten letters set on a stylized maple leaf with crossed ecru swords behind it. The reverse also features the face value of "25 cents."
