€20 FRANCE 2022 - William Shakespeare
Description
In 2021, Monnaie de Paris inaugurated a new series dedicated to literature.
After celebrating theater with Molière in early 2022, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to William Shakespeare, a playwright with a great body of work that continues to inspire artists around the world.
Born in England in 1564, he marked the language of his country so much that English is still often referred to as "Shakespeare's language."
As gifted in comedy as in tragedy, he wrote no less than thirty-seven dramatic works, including the very famous Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. To pay tribute to him, the Monnaie de Paris mint a series of gold and silver collector coins.
