This coin pays tribute to Ahatanhel Krymsky. Ukrainian historian, specialist in Slavic studies, linguist, orientalist scholar, writer and translator, Krymsky was one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and one of the academy's first fellows. Krymsky, who was fluent in almost sixty languages, mostly oriental, and knew all dialects of the Ukrainian language, made a significant contribution to Ukrainian oriental studies and Ukrainian studies. Krymsky's unique contribution to world culture was recognized by a decision of the UNESCO General Assembly to include this outstanding personality in the list of UNESCO eminent personalities.
