Obverse of the coin there is: the Small Emblem of the State of Ukraine (above) on the left and right side of which there is a conventional plant ornamentation with the composition symbolizing the ethnographic researches of the scientist: folk musical instruments, the symbols of the authority of Hetman. etc - in the center with the inscription ???????????? / ???? / ??????? (National Bank of Ukraine) above; the inscription 2 / ?????? / 2009 (2 / Hryvnias / 2009) and the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (below).
Reverse is the portrait of Pavlo Chubynskyi inside the ornamental frame along with the semicircular inscription ????? ???????????? (Pavlo Chubynskyi) (above) and the years of life 1839 (on the left), 1884 (on the right).

The commemorative coin is dedicated to Pavlo Platonovych Chubynskyi, ethnographer, folklorist, poet and public figure, author of the Anthem of Ukraine "The glory of Ukraine has not perished, nor its freedom...". Pavlo Platonovych deservedly occupied an important position among the plethora of public figures and scientists of the second part of the 19th century, whose Herculean efforts made the national revival of Ukraine possible. As one of the founders of Ukrainian ethnographic science, he was in charge of ethnographic expeditions investigating Ukraine, Russia and Moldova.
