2 dollars CANADA 2023 - Polar bear (2022 Elizabeth II)

A limited opportunity to obtain the 2023 Collector's Edition Uncirculated $2 Toonie Coins.

As we focus our attention on commemorating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022), the Mint will not issue any Canadian circulating coins dated 2023 that feature both the traditional reverse designs and an obverse featuring the Queen Isabel II. Instead, we offer a collector's edition of these annual issues that have been published in limited quantities. These are non-circulating coins, meaning they are legal tender but are not intended for general circulation.

Characteristics
Especially for collectors. A rare issue, these coins are available exclusively as part of the Annual Gift Sets, Collector's Edition Coin Set, and Special Wrap Roll Set. Each coin is not intended for general circulation.

Design
2003 was the last year that Pedery-Hunt's Dora design of Her Majesty's effigy appeared on the circulating two-dollar coin. In June 2003, the Government of Canada announced that an updated effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II would appear on all Canadian circulating coins in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Queen's coronation. This design is the work of artist Susanna Blunt, whose previous experience with Buckingham Palace included painting a portrait of Prince Edward. It is no mistake that circulating two-dollar coins dated 2003 show both the "crowned" and "uncrowned" effigy of Her Majesty.

The obverse also bears a special mark that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have adorned Canadian coins and the double date of his reign.
