Description

La Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to the greatest masterpieces present in French museums or that have been painted in France.

Marie Antoinette with a Rose is a painting by Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun from 1783. Marie Antoinette, queen of France and Navarre from 1774 to 1791, then queen of the French from 1791 to 1792, was the last queen of the old Diet. This painting, displayed in the Petit Trianon, the queen's estate in the Palace of Versailles, is the most famous of Marie Antoinette.

The obverse depicts one of Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun's works: Marie-Antoinette à la rose painted in 1783. The coins focus on Marie-Antoinette. In the upper right part, the "museum masterpieces" stamp has been added, which signs all the coins in this series and is confused with the work. The particularity of the €10 Silver is that it is colored. The Little Trianon, in which the work is exhibited, is an integral part of the drawing since it represents one of the sections of the frame. The name of the work, the artist and the 2023 vintage complete the decoration.

The reverse is common to the series, presenting a mix of views of several important French museums: at the top left, is an interior view of the Musée d'Orsay, recognizable by its magnificent clock. Next to it, there is a view of the facade of the Louvre, visible from Napoleon's courtyard (where the famous pyramid is located). Below these two elements, we see a fresco present in the Hôtel Salé that houses the Picasso museum. The lower part of the reverse shows a view of the façade of the Hôtel Biron, which is the current Musée Rodin. Upstairs, we find the famous staircase of the Pompidou Center. The face value, the mention "French Republic" as well as the difference from the Monnaie de Paris are also inscribed on this reverse.
