On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to these renowned international competitions through a collection that highlights sport, its values, the athletes but also the heritage of the host country. Olympism and Paralympism are celebrated.
The Olympic collection is not only about sport, but also about the heritage of the host country. Particularly for this edition, the Games will take place in the heart of the city, and that is why the emblematic places of Paris will be honored.
In 2021 the Grand Palais is presented. It will host, in particular, fencing and taekwondo competitions.
The reverse common to the series presents a view of Paris where the Seine takes on the appearance of an athletics track. The Eiffel Tower dominates the city and illuminates the competition.
Surrounded by a circle of traditional Chinese patterns, a Tiger appears in the center of the coin. Go through the coin using the door shown on the back. The Tiger ideogram appears to the left of its representation and was calligraphed by a famous artist, Xian Ying Hong. The date of the year and the inscription "Year of the Tiger" appear at the bottom, in the outer circle.
The reverse shows all the animals of the Chinese zodiac. They all appear on a screen surrounding the door of a traditional Chinese temple. From 2018 to 2029 a complete cycle of the Chinese zodiac will be composed. Therefore, each of these twelve years features an animal from this calendar. The face value is visible at the top left and the wording "RF" is on the door.
