The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris receives more than 13 million visitors a year from all over the world. It is the most visited monument in Europe. In 2019 it suffered a terrible fire that destroyed a large part of the cathedral. Monnaie de Paris wishes to contribute to the reconstruction of this important monument of French history.
The coin is inspired by the one created in 2013 and celebrated the 850th anniversary of the Cathedral. The obverse of the coin pays tribute to the architecture of this exceptional cathedral by depicting its most distinguishable features: the gargoyles, towers and the center of the rose window. “04/15/2019 Reconstruction” and “Notre-Dame de Paris” are written, evoking the help of Monnaie de Paris for the reconstruction.
The face value, the year 2019 date and the UNESCO logo appear on the reverse.
