The series presents the animals of the Chinese calendar each year.
Chinese astrology is based on a 12-year cycle, represented by twelve animals. The year 2019 is the year of the pig.
On the obverse , surrounded by a pattern inspired by traditional Chinese arts, the pig flies out of the center of the coin. The text "Year of the Pig" surrounds the design. Also shown is an ideogram made by a Chinese calligraphy master.
On the reverse we can find the twelve animals that make up the Chinese zodiac displayed on a traditional screen next to the door of a Chinese temple. The one the pig used to "pierce" the coin!
