The United States Mint's American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series honoring innovation and innovators with $1 coins from each State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa American, US Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana Islands. American Innovation $1 coins in rolls and bags were struck at the Philadelphia and Denver mints. The Indiana coin is the third of 2023.
Reverse (cross) of the Indiana $1 coin American Innovation features a series of vehicles showcasing Indiana innovations of yesterday and today. From top to bottom, the design includes an old-style gasoline car, a representation of classic car production, and a recent model of an Indy-style racing car. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "INDIANA".
Obverse (heads) features a dramatic depiction of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "$1." It also includes a private label of a stylized team, representing industry and innovation.
The year of minting, the mint mark and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are engraved on the edge of the coins.
