The mission of the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum is to honor and commemorate the extraordinary service and sacrifice of America's law enforcement officers and to serve as a bridge between the past and present, as well as between law enforcement officers and the public. It also works to increase public understanding and support for the law enforcement community while promoting safety.
Obverse: Depicts a sheriff's star, which represents the community law enforcement officers serve and the important role they play. The inscriptions are "SERVE AND PROTECT", "FREEDOM", "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
Reverse : Shows an eye in a magnifying glass looking at a fingerprint, portraying the human side of justice, a reminder that law enforcement is not just officers on the street, but many others behind the scenes. It also features the emblem of the National Law Enforcement Museum. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES of AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "HALF DOLLAR" and "NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM".
Surcharges in the amount of $5 for each half dollar sold are authorized to be paid to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, Inc., for educational and outreach programs and exhibits.
