Eleanor Roosevelt was one of our most active and influential first ladies. She was an author, reformer, advocate for civil liberties and human rights, and the first American woman delegate to the United Nations. He was also a member of the first delegation to the UN.
The design of reverse (tails) shows Eleanor Roosevelt and the scales of justice against a background representing the globe, a symbol of her impactful work with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "QUARTER DOLLAR", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "ELEANOR ROOSEVELT" and "UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS".
He obverse common (heads) depicts a portrait of George Washington. This design was originally composed and sculpted by Laura Gardin Fraser as a candidate for the 1932 quarter, which honored the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. The inscriptions are "FREEDOM", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2023".
