This coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Krychevskyi, who was one of the most prominent and unique figures in Ukrainian art from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. Krychevskyi had a wide range of talents: he contributed to architecture and painting, designed books, produced artistic presentations for theatrical performances and films, and also designed the national coat of arms of Ukraine, the state seal and paper money and stamps of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Krychevskyi had intimate knowledge of folk and world art, knew how to teach, and constantly studied himself. Inspired by the artistic work of the Ukrainian people, Krychevskyi left an important legacy: the artist's creative influence and his multifaceted individuality can be felt in all branches of art. In many of them he is seen as an innovator and creator of the Ukrainian national style.
Obverse : above, on the background of an ornament developed by Krychevskyi, is the legend ??????? (Ukraine), below which is the small coat of arms of Ukraine; To the right and left of the shield are the figures that make up the 2023 coin issue; in the center there is a stylized decorative tree of life, an element of a state banknote of the Ukrainian People's Republic; In the center of the tree is the face value of the coin??? ?????? (2 hryvnias); Below, on a plain background, is the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Minting and Printing Factory.
Reverse : Against a plain background is a portrait of Krychevskyi, to the right of which is a composition depicting the artist's heritage: above is the coat of arms of the Ukrainian People's Republic, below which is the first example of the new Ukrainian architecture style: the main facade of the Poltava Oblast County Council building (1903–1908) built according to a design by Krychevskyi; To the left of the portrait, on a plain background, is the semicircular legend ?????? ????????????? (Vasyl Krychevskyi); His years of birth and death 1873/1952 are to the right of the portrait on a matte background.
