The coin commemorates the 140th anniversary of the birth of Nicholas Roerich (Nikolai Konstantinovich Rerikh), a world-famous artist, philosopher, scholar, archaeologist and explorer, who made a substantial contribution to the treasury of world science and culture by having drawn up the first treatise international agreement on the protection of artistic and scientific institutions and historical monuments known as the Roerich Pact. Nicholas Roerich was connected to Ukraine by several intercommunications, from his delight in the creative work of Taras Shevchenko to the monumental mosaic compositions that spiritualized Orthodox churches.
