The commemorative coin is dedicated to the dragonfly, an endangered species of sturgeon. This bottom-dwelling fish is usually found in deep river basins with clean running water and tends to live alone or in small groups. The sterling is on the Ukrainian Red List of Threatened Species.
Obverse : inside the crown formed from images of different species of flora and fauna is the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the legends: ???????????? / ???? / ??????? / 2 / ?????? / 2012 (National / Bank / of Ukraine / 2 / hryvnias / 2012, below is the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
Reverse : there is the sterling image along with the inscriptions: below, on the light background that imitates the sandy bottom, ???????? ????????????? (freshwater sterlet) and above ACIPENSER RUTHENUS.
