€10 FRANCE 2023 - King Midas "The Sower - Myths and Wealth"
The Sower is the emblematic coin series of Monnaie de Paris. Focused on historical and numismatic facts, since 2014 it has commemorated the history of the currency itself. After two years dedicated to commemorating the anniversary of the introduction of the euro in France, the Sower is renewed and takes a leap in time.
For three years, this new theme will honor the myths and legends that have shaped the history of gold.
This collector's coin represents Midas, king of Phrygia. Honored with the gift of turning everything he touches into pure gold by the god Dionysus, Midas quickly gained a power that would make him infinitely rich. Unable to eat or quench her thirst from him, she sought comfort in the arms of her daughter, who instantly turned into a golden statue. He then implored Dionysus to take this gift away from him, and according to legend he had to wash in the river Pactolus to free himself from this curse.
In it On the reverse side , we find a modernized adaptation of the Sower by the engraver Louis-Oscar Roty, allowing a heraldic version of the French flag to appear in the drape of her dress. The word "RF" is also surrounded by an interlacing of hexagons reminiscent of France.
