American Women Quarters 2022 Ornament - Dr. Sally Ride
This collectible keepsake ornament is the latest offering from the American Women Quarters™ program!
From 2022 to 2025, this historic program celebrates the achievements and contributions of prominent women in the United States. All honorees, representing diverse ethnic, racial, and geographic backgrounds, distinguished themselves in a wide variety of fields and endeavors, including suffrage, civil rights, abolition, government, humanities, science, space, arts and many others.
As the first American woman to fly into space aboard the Challenger on June 18, 1983, Dr. Sally Ride captured the nation's imagination as a symbol of women's ability to break barriers. Her historic flight aboard the space shuttle represented just one aspect of an extraordinary, multifaceted life: she was also a physicist, athlete, science writer, and inspirational leader in science education.
This keepsake ornament is exquisitely designed and handcrafted in solid brass with rhodium finish. The intricate design elements highlight Ride's historic journey on the space shuttle, as well as the American flag that was on the sleeve of his flight jacket. Another element reflects her accomplishments as a children's book author, and the swirling atoms represent that she was, first and foremost, a physicist.
Framed by the ornament is a 2022 coin with the reverse (tails) design depicting Dr. Sally Ride next to a window aboard the space shuttle, inspired by her quote: "But when I wasn't working, I was usually in a window looking down on the Earth.” The inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is intentionally placed on the Earth next to the United States, indicating that of all the women in the US, she was the first to go to space Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “QUARTER DOLLAR” and “DR. SALLY WALK”. The obverse (head side) of the coin is not visible. A matching ribbon is attached to the top of the coin. ornament for easy display.

It includes a certificate of authenticity, along with an explanation of the ornament's design elements and a brief biography of the honoree.
