Introduction

In 2016 we commemorate the fifth centenary of the death of Hieronymus van Aeken Bosch, Hieronymus Bosch, one of the most fascinating and creative painters in world art.

Thanks to Philip II's interest in Hieronymus Bosch, Spain has the best collection of the artist's original paintings. The famous Triptych of the Garden of Earthly Delights, Hieronymus Bosch's most complex and enigmatic creation, is housed in the Prado Museum, a museum that houses other works by the great painter.

The Royal Mint joins the commemoration with the issuance of a unique collection developed in close collaboration with the Prado Museum. It is composed of three silver coins dedicated to the triptych of the "Garden of Earthly Delights", and a gold coin dedicated to the works "The Hay Cart" and "The Temptations of Saint Anthony".

These are the first square coins minted by the Royal Mint, and in addition, also as a first, they have been made in pure silver of 999 thousandths, whose obverses show the work in full color.
