The first Olympic Games after the First World War, full of hope and novelties .
On April 20, 1920, the seventh Summer Olympic Games opened in a new stadium in Antwerp's Kiel. Belgium was assigned the organization as a kind of compensation for the misery caused by the First World War. During the 1920 Summer Olympics, some 29 countries and 2,626 athletes participated and the sport was held in 24 disciplines.
The seventh Olympiad was one with many new features. For example, Belgian fencer Victor Boin takes the Olympic oath for the first time and the Olympic flag with the five rings is raised, each ring symbolizing a world continent. In addition, doves were released for the first time as a symbol of peace.
