The
Battle of Thermopylae is one of the most famous confrontations
between Greeks and Persians, commanded by Leonidas and Xerxes I
respectively, which took place during the so-called «Wars
Medical.
The main legacy of the battle of the
Thermopylae was the world order that was created since then. The
line between East and West became even more defined on the plane
political-military, although culturally the exchange that took place was maintained
had established since the first civilizations.
As
central motif of the obverse shows a Corinthian helmet of a warrior
hoplite adorned with his typical horsehair plume, next to which
the palmette appears, as a mark of the Greek mint, the year of issue
“2020” and the monogram of the author of the design, Georgios Stamatopoulos.
Surrounding everything is a circular fretwork and the legends of the issuing country.
“????????? ??????????” (Hellenic Republic), and the commemorative “2500
“XPONIA A?O TH MAXH T?N ?EPMO?Y???” (2500 years of the battle of the
Thermopylae).

Greek government unveiled its numismatic program at the beginning of February
for the year 2020 in which the designer of the coin as well as
the circulation and its distribution in the different qualities.
