The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Science and Innovation, has declared the "Santiago Ramón y Cajal 2022 Research Year", which is joined by the National Mint and Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda with the issuance of a commemorative coin in sterling silver.
The reverse of the coin shows an image of the Spanish scientist Santiago Ramón y Cajal with the image figure created by himself of an axial section of the retina.
On the obverse appears HM the King of Spain Felipe VI.
