5 euros MALTA 2021 - Knights of the past
The Knights of the Past is the first commemorative coin created as a result of a collaboration between the Central Bank of Malta and the German Mint.
The obverse of the first coin in the series shows the Knights of Malta in battle formation against the background of the famous Verdal Palace.
The reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Central Bank of Malta on a shield held by a Knight of Malta.
The Renaissance Verdal Palace, designed by Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar, was built in 1586 during the reign of Hugh Lubens of Verdal. This limestone building located in Busquette Gardens in Malta, although it looked like a military fort, was definitely not one.
